Dr. Phillip Wells

Dr. Phillip G. Wells was born May 26, 1915 to Mary Wells outside of Wilmington, North Carolina and educated in local public schools. Phillip would enter the Hampton Institute, received the master’s degree as a Teacher of English. He received his doctorate from University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia in Teacher Education. Phillip was recruited to Eastern Michigan University in 1959 and moved to Ypsilanti. While here, Dr. Wells participated in organizing Black faculty in the school and became involved with the local chapter of the NAACP and  various religious and social organizations. Eventually, Dr. Wells would move to Washtenaw Community College where he served on the Board of Trustees. Dr. Phillip G. Wells passed away on May 6, 1995.
