Louise Bass

Louise (Lane) Bass was born on October 14, 1919 to Frank and Emma (Cook) Lane in Malvern, Arkansas. Louise married Dr. Thomas Bass of New Jersey in 1944. Together they moved to Ypsilanti, where they raised three children, daughters Ann and Leah and son, the National Football League star cornerback, Mick Bass. Along with being a leading member of the State and National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, Mrs. Bass was a longtime and active member of Brown Chapel AME, the NAACP, the Palm Leaf Club, the Girl Scouts and many other community organizations. Mrs. Bass became a math teacher for Ypsilanti Public Schools after her children were grown. She passed away on August 18, 1992 at 72 years old.
